André Gil Mata
​
After studying mathematics, André Gil Mata dedicated himself to photography and theater. Filmmaker and actor, he initiated the creation of an independent laboratory focused on analog film and has been a festival programmer (Luso-Brazilian Film Festival of Santa Maria da Feira and Doclisboa). He joined the Film Factory in Sarajevo, a school founded by Bela Tarr, and graduated in directing in 2016. His first short film, ARCA D'ÁGUA (2009), which was selected for major Portuguese festivals (IndieLisboa, Vila do Conde, Fantasporto). He quickly gained international recognition and joined the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2010. His other films have been screened in Hungary, Turkey, Ukraine, Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, as well as in Korea, Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil. In 2020, he co-founded the production company Rua Escura with three other directors.
